Jokowi Allots Rp493.5tn in State Budget Plan to Accelerate Poverty Reduction

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo mentioned that the government has allotted Rp493.5 trillion in the 2024 State Budget Plan to accelerate poverty reduction and increase welfare. The budget will be utilized for long-term human resources development and breaking the poverty chain.

“The social protection budget is allotted for Rp493.5 trillion. In line with that (budget), the social protection reform is directed to the improvement of a lifetime, adaptive social protection, precise subsidy, and based on the targeted receivers,” said Jokowi in his 2024 State Budget Plan and Financial Note speech in Nusantara Building, Jakarta on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

Furthermore, Jokowi also instructed the improvement of the database for social assistance receivers to encourage the realization of the acceleration of extreme poverty eradication in 2024.

The government also allotted a health budget amounting to Rp186.4 trillion, equal to 5.6% of the total budget.

“The budget is intended for health system transformation and encourages the development of a strong and competitive pharmacy industry,” Jokowi said.

At the same event, Jokowi explained that the total State Budget allotted for 2024 amounted to Rp2,781.3 trillion. Meanwhile, government spending is allotted at Rp3,304.1 trillion in total.
